Azerbaijani President Hopes Conflicts in GUAM to be Resolved in line with International Law

Lithuania, Vilnius / special corr Trend Y.Huseynov / Over the past 10 years GUAM has turned to a an organization backed by the European Union (EU) and other international bodies, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated in a jubilee summit of GUAM in Vilnius, Lithuania. At present Azerbaijan chairs at GUAM, an alliance of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova.

In his appeal Azerbaijani President appreciated regular participation of the heads of state of EU member-countries at GUAM summits. "Moreover, the organization itself expands relations with other countries and holds meetings at formats of GUAM-US, GUAM-Poland, GUAM-Japan," President Aliyev said.

Speaking about major directions of joint activities, in particular, at euro-Atlantic bodies, the development of democratic development and expansion of economic cooperation, the head of state reminded of a common problem uniting three countries of GUAM, which is aggressive separatism and ethnic cleansing. He voiced his hope that these conflicts will be resolved on the basis of international law. Moreover, Aliyev voiced his hope that expansion of partnership, integration into Euro-Atlantic bodies and development of economic cooperation among countries will contribute in the resolution of the unsettled conflicts.
