Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 March / Trend corr G. Jabiyev/ All troops in the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan are conforming to NATO standards. "The land forces, the military aviation and naval forces are conforming totally to NATO standards. Military training of officers, as well as all military training, should conform in this manner," Azerbaijan's Defence Minister colonel-general Safar Abiyev said on 17 March at the meeting with Major-General George Lebeli, the Deputy Director of the NATO International Headquarters and the head of the Regional Security Cooperation Administration.

Azerbaijan has been cooperating with NATO since 1994 within the framework of the Partnership for Peace program. In August 2005, the two sides signed the Working Plan on Individual Partnership, which is currently being implemented.

Azerbaijan has been the associate member in NATO PA since 2002.

Abiyev said that to date, Azerbaijan, together with NATO, has participated in the events within the framework of several cooperation programs and that has given positive results.
