Azerbaijani Ruling Party Selects Its Observers for Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 30 July/ Trend , corr E. Babayev/ The ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) has selected observers for the upcoming presidential elections. "Our observers will observe the voting all over the country," Mubariz Gurbanli, deputy executive secretary of NAP and MP said to Trend .

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on 15 October 2008. The Azadlig bloc, which unites three opposition parties - Popular Front party, Citizen and Development party and Liberal party, will boycott the presidential elections.  The Civil Solidarity Party, Communist Party and Great Establishment Party will not nominate their own candidates for the elections. Eldar Namazov, head of For Azerbaijan public forum, Igbal Agazade, chairman of Umid party, Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of Modern Musavat party, Mais Gulaliyev, chairman of Green Party and Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan have been nominated for the presidential elections.

Musavat and Democratic Party of Azerbaijan, who announced that they would take part in the elections in at the beginning of the year, will make public their final decision on 2 August. Governing New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) is going nominate country's current President Ilham Aliyev

Gurbanli said that the observers of NAP, who will observe the elections, have already been selected. "They will observe voting in all district elections commissions and polling stations in line with a law," Gurbanli said, but he did not divulge the exact number of observers. "The number of the observers has been determined according to a law," he added.

NAP was established by the chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Heydar Aliyev in 1992. The current President Ilham Aliyev is the chairman of the Party which has been ruling for already 15 years.
