Negotiations in 'Five' Format to Last to Establish Caucasus Peace and Stability Platform: Turkish Premier

Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 August / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / Receb Tayyib Erdogan, the Turkish Premier who held primary negotiations with Russia and Georgia to realize the idea of Caucasus Peace And Stability Platform comprising five countries, will hold discussions with the Azerbaijani President on 20 August.

"Next week the Turkish Foreign Minister will meet with his Russian counterpart to discuss this issue and then will hold negotiations with Armenia on this matter," Erdogan, the Turkish Premier said at a news conference in Ankara on 20 August. The Turkish Haber Turk (Turkish news) TV channel aired this conference lively.

At present Erdogan is leaving for Baku to discuss the Caucasus Peace And Stability Platform initiative and will meet with the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev within the next few hours.

Latest developments in South Ossetia necessitate the establishment of peace and cooperation platform in Caucasus region, Erdogan told Turkish journalists before the visit. "I will discuss the establishment of this platform with the Azerbaijani Government. Turkey is interested in peace and stability in Caucasus region, as well."

The Caucasus Peace And Stability Platform can restore peace in the region, the Premier told the Russian and Georgian Governments during his Moscow and Tbilisi visit last week.

"Both Russia and Georgia respond to the initiative positively. Discussion will be held in Armenia between five states. The Turkish Foreign Minister will meet with his Russian counterpart this week. Then the format of discussions to be held with Armenia will be specified," Erdogan said.
