Afghanistan, Kabul, 3 December / corr Trend A.  Hakimi / Thousands of former Afghan army officers sit exams across the country in attempt to rejoin country's forces.

A total of18,000 Disarmament Decommissioning and Reconciliation (DDR) officers sat a Ministry of Defense exam on Wednesday morning.

The exams were held in the Afghan capital Kabul and six other provinces.

The Afghan National Army's (ANA) Education Director said that the tests were designed to bolster the man power of Afghanistan's army, which is strong need for the present situation of Afghanistan.

DDR officers served in the armies of previous regimes in Afghanistan. They were dismissed in 2002 when the ANA was created.

However, military officers and experts, opposed the process on that time too.

Those who pass the exam will enter the ANA. The ANA is especially seeking DDR officers who are over 49 and held the rank of colonel.

Many DDR officers expressed their desire to help the Afghan government in the struggle against terrorism and they claimed that they have enough experience to fight any problems or insecurity.
