Indonesia intends to strengthen ties with Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Jan. 14/ Trend E. Hasanov/ The government of Indonesia intends to stregthen ties with Turkmenistan, the letter of Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov says.

The government of Indonesia has a wish for supporting and stregthening friendly and kind relations with Turkmenistan, the letter says.

Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ivan Viranata Atmaja representing interests of his country in Central Asia has got the accreditation in Turkmenistan.

Indonesia's ambassador delivered credentials to speaker of the Turkmen Parliament Akja Nurberdiyeva. Within the framework of exchange of opinions on prospects of bilateral partnership the parties "admitted the importance of interstate dialogue activization, especially, cooperation in fuel and energy complex, construction, as well as humanitarian sphere", Turmen press reported.

Indonesia Petroleum Ltd purchased shares in a gaspipeline consortium on construction project of the pipeline from Turkmenistan to Pakistan in the mid. 1990s. Unocal U.S company was an operator of this project. But the project was suspended because of instability in transit territory of Afghanistan.

Within the last years Ashgabat and Islamabad reanimated this project. The Asian bank of development financed its technical economic base. Recently India acts as purchaser of Turkmen gas that increased chances to realize transnational project.
