Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 4 / Trend , E.Rustamov/

Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member countries' unified military contingent does not threat Azerbaijan, said an Azerbaijani official,

"I think the domestic and foreign policies carried out by the government ensure stability, independence and security of Azerbaijan and provide a good, strong and promising future," Azerbaijani Presidential Administration International Relations Department head Novruz Mammadov told Trend on Feb. 4, commenting on the creation of a unified military contingent of the CSTO member states.
Today Moscow will host a meeting of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council, Defense Ministers Council and Security Council Secretaries Committee. The main issue to be discussed at the meeting is creation of collective rapid reaction forces. An agreement has been designed to be signed today.
CSTO is a military-political union of seven countries (Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan), created on the basis of the Collective Security Treaty signed on May 15, 1992. The Collective Security Treaty was transformed into an international organization on May 14, 2002. The UN General Assembly issued the status of observer to the CSTO on Dec. 2, 2004. Azerbaijan is not a member of the organization.

CSTO countries have been operating within the organization for many years, said Mammadov.
"Every state is trying to maintain its independence and security by various factors. The counties believe it is expedient to ensure security in this framework," said Mammadov.
