The new visa system between Turkey and Georgia will not impact relations between the countries. However, certain segments of the Georgian population will be affected, Georgia's ex-President Eduard Shevarnadze told Trend in a telephone conversation on Feb. 16.

Last week Ukraine and Turkey stated their willingness to review their visa system with Georgia.

According to Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Jalaganiya, Turkey is reviewing the pedestrian check-point system at its border.

"There will be some rather insignificant restrictions. They will not seriously impact relations between the two countries but will rather affect a certain part of the population. I don't think this will be a catastrophe for Georgia," Shevarnadze said.

Georgia and Turkey maintain traditionally good relations, he said.
