U.S. Central Commander General David Petraeus arrived in Uzbekistan on Feb. 17, the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent told Trend .
"Petraeus visited Tashkent to review Uzbek proposals on regional safety issues and define the best approach to resolve challenges," the embassy said.
Petraeus will meet with Uzbek President Islam Karimov, Defense Minister Kabul Berdyev and Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov.
"The sides will review regional security cooperation issues, as well as challenges to recover peaceful life in Afghanistan," the embassy said.
The Uzbek Defense Ministry International Relations Department said the transit of U.S. non-military cargo via Uzbekistan to Afghanistan will be a key issue during the discussions.
