Democratic Movement for United Georgia leader Nino Burjanadze said President Micheil Saakashvili must resign before April 9. Otherwise, the opposition will begin staging rallies.

"Our main goal is to save the country from domestic and foreign threats. Later we will try to overcome the crisis," Burjanadze said. She stressed that the goal "can be reached only after Saakashvili's resignation."

"We held consultations with opposition forces and agreed that the president must resign before April 9 and call snap elections. Otherwise, we will stage protests," Burjanadze said. She added that her party will not participate in any referendum or parliamentary elections.

"If snap elections are not called before April 9, then we will urge our supporters to stage rallies," Burjanadze said.
