Belgium, Brussels, March 5 / Trend , A.Ismayilova/
NATO Foreign Ministers agreed to re-establish relations with Russia, NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said in Brussels on March 5 after the foreign ministers' meeting.
On March 5, Scheffer urged the foreign ministers to agree to resume the NATO-Russian Council's activity. The secretary general noted that NATO and Russia have common interests to restore peace in Afghanistan, combat terrorism and non-proliferation of weapons of mass annihilation.
The alliance cancelled the Russia-NATO Council's activity unilaterally in September 2008, when Russia commenced military operations in the Georgian territory.
