Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini sent a representative to Iran in order to clarify the date of visit to this country, Iranian Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Hasan Gashgavi said, the ISNA agency reported.
Frattini's visit to Tehran was scheduled for May 20. Italian minister had planned to visit Iran in order to invite the officials of that country to participate in the expanded meeting of G8 in favor of Afghanistan. During the two-day visit Frattini is expected to discuss the development of nuclear technology of Iran and regional issues. However, Frattini's visit was postponed.
The meeting of G8 foreign ministers will be held in the Italian city of Trieste June 25-27, the Vzglad newspaper said referring to the Italian Foreign Ministry. Trieste is located on the shores of the Adriatic Sea and is one of the main ports of Italy. Important international meetings are often held here.
