Permanent Secretariat of Turkic-speaking countries PA to be in Baku

Permanent Secretariat of the Turkic-speaking countries' Parlaimentary Assembly (PA) will be located in Baku.

"Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has already expressed his agreement on this issue," Head of the Azerbaijani Parliament Administration Safa Mirzoyev said on July 7.

In February 2008, an agreement was signed to establish the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-speaking countries in Turkey. The protocol was signed by representatives of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan refused to participate in the event.

It is planned to hold the summit of the Turkic-speaking countries PA in Baku in September 2009.

At the Baku meeting, the head s of the four countries' parliaments put forward to locate the permanent secretariat in Baku, Mirzoyev said.

The summit of the Assembly to be held in Azerbaijan in September will focus on important issues, he added.

"At present Regulations of the Assembly is under development and the paper may be adopted at the summit," Mirzoyev said.
