The Kazakh Ambassador to Switzerland and UN Permanent Representative in Geneva, Mukhtar Tleuberdi, has officially taken office and delivered his credentials to UN Deputy Secretary General and Director General of the UN office in Geneva, Sergey Orjonikidze, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's press-service said.
"The Deputy Secretary General congratulated the Kazakh diplomat on officially taking office. Sergey Orjonikidze praised the work of Kazakh permanent representatives in Geneva within international organizations," the press-release said.
The message said that he stressed the importance of the role of Kazakhstan's initiative to establish a nuclear-free zone in Central Asia, which also agrees with the mission of the UN Conference on disarmament.
"The Head of the UN department stressed the necessity for further developments in Kazakh initiatives to hold meetings of traditional and world religions to strengthen tolerance between denominations and peoples. Its goals and tasks coincide with UN initiatives on the alliance of civilizations," the message said.
Orjonikidze said that the Kazakh chairmanship in OSCE shows the obvious growth in Kazakhstan's authority in the international arena and is sure to be an important achievement for Kazakhstan.
