Stable and tolerant development of Azerbaijani society is a good example for all subjects of the Russian Federation, where a considerable part of the population are Muslims, Russian General Arkady Yedelev said.
"Azerbaijan has a leading position in the region. This is personal instructive example for us to build a harmonious secular-Muslim state. We should promote and use the experience of Azerbaijan for the North Caucasus region inthis sphere," he told media.
Yedelev is Deputy Commissioner Representative of the Russian President in the North Caucasus Federal District. He participated a conference on "Russia and Azerbaijan: through the expansion of regional cooperation for inter-regional partnership" in Baku today. The meeting is held on the initiative of the Institute of European Studies.
Yedelev stressed that the situation in the North Caucasus region as a whole is stable.
"Terrorist acts intensify. But the intelligence and law enforcement agencies of Russia successfully combat these acts by destruction of individual leaders of these terrorist groups," he said.
Cross-border cooperation between law enforcement bodies of Russia and the Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan is at a high level, the general said. He said that there is a mutual exchange of significant information in searching and revealing criminals and terrorists crossing the international line.
