Tina Kaidanow sums up visit to Tbilisi

The Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Tina Kaidanow during visit to Georgia discussed the issues related to local elections scheduled for May 30. Summing up her meetings, she stated that met with representatives of government, opposition and civil society, the U.S. Embassy to Georgia said.

"We discussed many issues, including upcoming local elections," Tina Kaidanow quoted Vice President Joseph Biden, who emphasized importance of support for democratic reforms in Georgia for the U.S.

"Vice President stressed the importance of creating equitable electoral environment. During this visit I had the opportunity to continue the dialogue which was launched at a meeting of the working group on democratic issues under my chairmanship in November of 2009. We discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation at that meeting. The U.S. Government strongly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. I take a in the Geneva talks," Kaidanow said.

According to her, recently, the 31st battalion of Georgian Armed Forces was sent to Afghanistan.

"I'd like highlight the partnership between our countries in combating global terrorism. The American people greatly appreciate the great contribution of Georgia in operations to support security in Afghanistan," Kaidanow said.
