Azerbaijani opposition parties decide on joint support for their candidates in parliamentary elections

Azerbaijan's opposition Musavat party and the Union for Democracy (UD) decided on joint support of all their candidates in the parliamentary elections.

"There will not be a candidate from UD in constituencies where the Musavat Party will nominate its candidate, and there will not be a candidate from the Musavat Party in constituencies where UD will nominate its candidates." However, both Musavat and UD will support these candidates," the chairman of the UD electoral headquarters Ahmed Oruj said.

Musavat party and UD held joint discussions on June 17 and the decision was made after these discussions. The parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijan this autumn. Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. In Azerbaijan, the parliamentary elections are held by the majority system in 125 electoral districts.

Both sides also agreed upon joint actions. "The next meeting on June 21 will determine the venue and time of mass actions," said Oruj.
