A series of human rights seminars were held in Turkmenistan under an EU-UNDP joint project.

Turkmen law enforcement agencies studied international human rights standards. Lectures were also read on human rights and arrests, human rights and detention, ethical and lawful police conduct, gender equality and nondiscrimination, and lawfulness during criminal investigations and court proceedings.

The seminars were held at regional centers and in a number of settlements.

"There is a clear need to continue these discussions ... on the practical application of international human rights standards," Belarusian expert Irina Serebryakova said.

The seminar was held under a project to strengthen Turkmenistan's capacity to promote and protect human rights, which is run in partnership with the Turkmen government.
