Georgian Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili has held meetings at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France with Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland and ambassadors of Georgian allies in the Council, the Interior Ministry has told Trend.

Merabishvili addressed reforms in law enforcement agencies and future plans, and signed the European Convention on the International Effects of Deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles.

This convention is one of the most important documents adopted by the Council of Europe in the fight against transport crime. The convention is aimed at developing a common approach to dealing with traffic offenses and deepening of cooperation between the relevant authorities.

The signing and implementation of the convention is one more step for Georgia in the process of approximating European standards in transport regulation.
