British minister will visit Azerbaijan (UPDATE)

UK Minister of State for Europe, MP David Lidington will pay an official visit to Azerbaijan on Oct.20-22, 2010, the UK embassy in Baku reported.  

He will be accompanied by a delegation of British businesses.

Lidington is expected to meet a number of key figures in the Azerbaijani government, including President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, as well as with the Ministers for Economic Development, and Transport.  

He will also meet key figures in leading Azerbaijani businesses.

Lidington will give a speech at the Azerbaijan University of Languages on Azerbaijan and its role in Europe, followed by a question and answer session with a group of students. 

The Minister will use his visit to further strong bilateral relations and to bring British and Azerbaijani businesspeople together to find new opportunities to support prosperity in both countries.

Ahead of his first official visit to Azerbaijan, Lidington said: "Although it will be my first visit to Azerbaijan, I am aware that relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom go back a long way and I am looking forward to building on this strong relationship in the years to come."
