Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec.7 / Trend M. Aliyev /

Azerbaijan's ruling party believes that the recent resignations in the opposition Musavat party are only natural.

"Part of the opposition, refusing to accept the reality, carries out radical, and then even more than radical activity," ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary Ali Ahmedov told Trend today. "A party that cannot enlist public support must pass through similar processes."

Sulheddin Akbar, the chairman of Musavat's Executive Committee, and Ibrahim Ibrahimli, a member of the party, resigned on Nov. 29.

Akbar said he resigned due to a disagreement with the party's strategic course. Meanwhile, Ibrahimli said the party's leadership simply did not trust him.

Akbar and Ibrahimli resigned as they did not agree with the party's antagonistic opinions, Ahmedov said.

Both politicians cited this reason in a statement on Nov. 30, adding that "forces" were preventing the unification of Musavat and the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party.

According to Ahmedov, there is a need for cardinal changes in the opposition camp.

"This necessity is dictated by the social order," he said. "Their activities are based on radicalism, denial and slander, and cannot be supported by society."

The opposition should consider replacing individuals who failed in various election processes, Ahmedov said.
