Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 22 / Trend S. Agayeva /
Several Azerbaijani citizens, temporarily residing in Libya, appealed to the country's embassy in Tripoli with a request to return to their homeland. Now a diplomatic mission resolves this issue, Azerbaijani ambassador to Libya Agaselim Shukurov told Trend.

Until today, no attacks were made on Azerbaijani citizens in Libya. None of them was injured during the recent events. The embassy is trying to send everyone home as far as possible, the ambassador said.

Today, the situation in the country gradually normalizes. As opposed to Egypt, foreigners are not attacked in Libya, the diplomat said. "The confrontation between the authorities and people does not affect foreigners in Libya, " he said.

At present, 15-16 Azerbaijani citizens temporarily live in Libya. They are working in the international oil companies. Some of them appealed to the embassy with a request to evacuate them from Libya.

The current situation at the Tripoli international airport is tense. The airport does not receive planes. Many flights are canceled.

Nevertheless, the Azerbaijani Embassy keeps the situation under control. It constantly gets in touch with all Azerbaijanis in Libya. It will send citizens to their homeland as soon as possible.
Protest actions in the Libyan provinces demanding Gaddafi's resignation and all senior officials have been continuing since Feb. 15.
According to Human Rights Watch, during the suppression of mass demonstrations, not less than 233 people died. Officially, authorities confirm the death of only 84 people, RIA Novosti reported.

The embassy created a hotline to communicate with its fellow citizens by calling 0021 821 360 81 92 and 00 21 821 361 81 49. If they have any problems, they can phone any time.
