Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov will pay an official visit to Uzbekistan in May, an official Turkmen source reported.
Berdimuhammedov will visit the country upon Uzbek President Islam Karimov's invitation. During the visit, the sides are expected to sign a package of intergovernmental documents. Earlier the sides agreed to prepare a free trade agreement.
Neighboring Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan increased the mutual trade turnover by more than 50 percent, reaching about $270 million.
The two countries are linked with a number of major projects, in particular a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan was opened in December 2009. The parties also consider the possibility of cooperation in the implementation of railway project, which would link Central Asia with the Gulf countries.
