Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov voiced concerns over the European Parliament's (EP) resolution on Azerbaijan at a meeting with EP President Jerzy Buzek.

"We are concerned about the recent resolution and reasons for this decision are completely unclear for us," Asadov said on Friday.

The European Parliament adopted a critical resolution on situation with human rights and democracy in Azerbaijan on May 12.

"After independence, Azerbaijan takes steps to improve the human rights situation," Asadov said. "Azerbaijan is independent for just 20 years, and it is impossible to say that all questions in the field of democracy have been solved. We intensively work in this direction and first try to solve problems associated with the violation of human rights."

Asadov assessed the adoption of the European resolution without Azerbaijan's participation as a biased step.

"Euronest should actively work to develop the relations between Azerbaijan and the European Parliament and issues discussed in the European Parliament should be first discussed in Euronest," Asadov said.

He also expressed confidence that any issue can be solved in close cooperation.
Buzek said they favor dialogue with countries and his Baku visit has namely this target.
