Azerbaijan and Austria are expected to increase trade turnover in 2011, Austrian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Sylvia Meyer Kaibic told journalists on Monday.

She said that trade turnover between the two countries amounted to 150 million manat in 2010.

Kaibic stated that bilateral trade between the two countries continues to grow, following the opening of the Austrian Embassy in Azerbaijan in 2010.

The Azerbaijani-Austrian business forum running in Baku is a preparatory measure for the eve of Federal President of Austria Heinz Fischer's official visit to Azerbaijan on Oct.11-12, she said.

The two countries cooperate not only in the economic sphere but also in culture, tourism, and education. During the visit, Fischer is expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding and a series of documents on cooperation in these areas.

Kaibic said that areas in which Austrian businessmen want to invest in Azerbaijan are being studied.

"These areas include infrastructure and tourism. We are trying to look more closely into them. Azerbaijan's telecommunications sector records rapid development. We are very attentive to the project to launch a national satellite Azerspace. This is a very big project. The use of e-government is also important for us and a special discussion will be held on the matter tomorrow," she noted.
