Azerbaijani Ambassador to Indonesia and Singapore Tamerlan Garayev presented his credentials to Singapore's President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Thursday, the embassy told Trend on Friday.

After the ceremony, a face-to-face meeting between Tan and Garayev was held. The ambassador stressed the importance of developing relations between the two countries, including mutually beneficial cooperation within the UN and other international organizations.

Garayev spoke about the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territories by Armenia and the 1 million IDPs in Azerbaijan. The ambassador also spoke about the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. He stressed the need to bring the perpetrators of such crimes to justice.

Singapore's president expressed his satisfaction with the development of the ties between the two countries and stressed the importance of bilateral economic cooperation. He said he attaches great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan.

The ambassador also stressed the importance of the officials' visits.

Tan said he always welcomes Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. He promised that he will give instructions to the appropriate ministries to establish a legal framework for the countries' ties.
