Turkish prime minister in office Recep Tayyip Erdogan remains to be the top contender for victory in presidential elections in Turkey, planned for August of 2014, the expert on internal policy of Turkey, the editor of Milat newspaper Ismayil Yasha stated.

"During his time in the office Erdogan has achieved real success both in domestic and in foreign policy. He has acquired a reputation as a successful politician, this is why he is most likely to win the elections", Yasha noted.

In his words, it's very essential for the ruling Justice and Development Party to keep its leadership in the country.

Yasha also says Turkish president in office Abdulla Gul is eligible to run for Turkish president. If Gul decides to be a candidate for country president, a serious competition is expected between Gul and Erdogan.

"Turkish public considers that Gul and Erdogan will be able to reach a common decision on this issue, and Gul will most likely concede to Recep Tayyip and will not run for president once more", Yasha stated.

He also noted the importance of Erdogan's support by islamist movements. If Erdogan keeps his good relations with Islamic leaders in Turkey, his chances for victory will grow, as these movements enjoy great authority among the population.

Istanbul governer Kadir Topbash has stated that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is going to run for president at upcoming elections.

Previously, Turkish vice prime minister Bekir Bozdag has declared that presidential elections are appointed for August of 2014.
