Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 June / Trend R.Hafizoglu /

The attitude of the European Union towards Turkey is inot sincere. The EU intends to increase Turkey's dependency on it, expert on the foreign policy of Turkey Mustafa Ozcan told Trend on Friday.

According to him, the recent events in Taksim Square and the statement of the European Parliament on the situation human rights in Turkey once again proves the insincerity of the EU.

He also added that the European Parliament's statement on human rights in Turkey does not reflect the realities of the country.

Against the backdrop of the ongoing protests, the European Parliament issued a statement saying that Turkey infringe on the rights of the protesters. The Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in response that any EU decision on Turkey is unfounded.

The Foreign Miniser Ahmet Davutoglu said that no country has the right to teach Turkey democracy and the statement that Turkey infringes on the rights of the protesters is wrong.

According to Ozcan, before making such statements the EU had to think about economic interests.

"Such statements by the EU will hardly strongly affect the economic relations, but they can influence the further development of the relations," Ozcan said.

Protests in Turkey continued for more than two weeks. According to the authorities of the country, they had anti-government character.

On the eve of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with the delegation of the protesters in the park Gezi.

It also reported that a representative of the Turkish Prime Minister, deputy head of the ruling party Huseyin Celik proposed to submit the issue of the reconstruction of Gezi Park to a referendum.
