Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has had talks by phone with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry over the situation in Egypt, İhlas news agency reported on Thursday.

According to the report, Davutoglu and Kerry have come to believe that the continued aggression against protesters, supporters of former President Mohammed Morsi, is unacceptable and that the parties to the conflict in Egypt must begin the process of peace negotiations.

On Wednesday morning, the Egyptian army began a crackdown on demonstrators. Some 300 dead and over a 1000 wounded have been reported since the clampdown started in Cairo's Rabia Al-Adawi and Nahda squares.

On July 3, the Egyptian army ousted President and Islamist Mohammed Morsi from power, suspended the Constitution and instructed the head of the Constitutional Court to act as the head of government during a transitional period.

Morsi's supporters that disagreed with the army's decision have been conducting daily protests demanding the return of the president and restoration of the Constitution.

The Egyptian court also extended the decision to arrest Morsi for 15 days as part of the on-going investigation. The court accused Morsi of cooperating with Hamas as well as the escape from prison during the revolution in 2011.
