The Azerbaijani Ministry of National Security has conducted an anti-terrorist operation, the ministry said Oct.16.
Five citizens, who took part in the armed conflicts in Syria and Iraq by supporting such terrorist groups as Islamic State, Jabhat al-Nusra and Jund al-Khalifah, were arrested.
Azerbaijani citizens Namig Guliyev, Khalid Hajiverdiyev, Taleh Ahmadov, Elvin Asgarov and Anar Mahmudov were arrested as suspects.
It was revealed that these individuals participated in the activity of the certain armed groups in Syria and Iraq, including such terrorist organizations as Islamic State, Jabhat al-Nusra and Jund al-Khalifah in 2012-2015.
An investigation is underway.
