Ex-head of Azerbaijan’s Anti-Terrorism Center sentenced to 10.5 years

Major-General Elchin Guliyev, former head of Azerbaijan’s Anti-Terrorism Center of the liquidated Ministry of National Security, has been sentenced to 10.5 years in prison.
Meanwhile, Colonel Azer Mehdiyev, has been sentenced for 8 years of imprisonment. Mehdiyev has been deprived of the military rank of colonel in accordance with the court’s decision.
In addition, the court has submitted a proposal to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to deprive Elchin Guliyev of the military rank of general.
Elchin Guliyev and a number of other persons were detained Dec. 25, 2015. Guliyev was charged under several articles of the Criminal Code within the criminal case initiated by the Grave Crimes Investigation Department at the Prosecutor General's Office.
