Baku, Azerbaijan, April 5
By Anvar Mammadov - Trend:
The policy pursued by some states against the territorial integrity of other countries harms stability and is based on selfishness, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Alberto Arreaza Montserrat said.
He was speaking at the Mid-Term Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which kicked off in Baku April 5.
He said that promotion of international security and stability for sustainable development, which benefits the whole world, will be the main topic of the conference.
“We often become victims of external forces which are trying to continue destabilizing the situation, threatening peace and democracy in a country,” he noted. “They impose illegal sanctions that affect economic and financial development of a country. Such threat only unites us.”
He added that in the 21st century, countries again face the consequences of the Cold War.
“Interference in the internal affairs of states continues, and the NAM wants to play its positive role in solving problems,” he said. “We intend to develop the organization in order to serve social justice in the world. We must prevent interference in the internal policies of countries. We must treat with respect all cultures, religions, principles of territorial integrity and human rights, including peace and development.”
