BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. The return of Gazakh villages, long occupied by Armenia, to Azerbaijan makes a positive contribution to the process of normalizing the situation, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said, Trend reports.

He made the statement during a press conference with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar in Islamabad.

He noted that Azerbaijan has always appreciated Pakistan's firm political and moral support for Azerbaijan during the past Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, the 44-day Patriotic War, and afterward.

“Our position on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir has also always been consistent. Azerbaijan supports a peaceful solution to this issue based on the norms and principles of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and with full respect for international law. Today I informed my colleague about the post-conflict situation in our region and Azerbaijan's work on rehabilitation and reconstruction in the liberated territories.

The recent agreement on the delimitation of a certain portion of the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the return of long-time Armenian-occupied villages to Azerbaijan positively contribute to the normalization track. Azerbaijan is committed to the peace process, and we hope that it will yield positive results for a prosperous and secure region for all countries,” Bayramov said.

To note, as a result of delimitation works, a 12.7 km long border line was defined, thus ensuring the return of territories (6.5 square kilometers) of four villages in the Gazakh district of the Republic of Azerbaijan: Baganys Ayrim, Ashagy Askipara, Kheyrimli, and Gyzylhajily to Azerbaijan. These villages were taken under the control of the State Border Guard Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan on May 24.
