The Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan (IM) sent a reply on 22 September 2005 to the relevant inquiry of the Central Election Committee (CEC). The CEC secretary Vidadi Mahmudlu told Trend .
The inquiry was aimed at clarification of the fact, whether there are persons among
the candidates, who committed heavy and especially heavy crimes, or convicted including those, whose conviction was not removed.
According to Mahmudlu, CEC uses all possible means for revealing among the candidates persons convicted for heavy crimes, as well as those who has not served the prescribed terms.
The inquiry sent to CEC was related to this.
The CEC secretary said it is premature to say, whether in the reply sent by IM there are names of those who committed heavy crimes and so on. В"Based on this reply we are currently carrying on an investigation. It will last two days. The results will be reported in two days”, Mahmudlu said.
