The Azerbaijani Central Election Committee (CEC) held its first meeting in the new composition. Attending the event were Ogtay Asadov, the chairman of the Milli Majlis [Parliament], and Safa Mirzayev, the head of the Milli Majlis Administration. Asadov congratulated representatives of newly-formed CEC, Trend reports.
The meeting elected the governing composition of the Committee. Asadov noted that in accordance with the Elections Code, the New Azerbaijan Party in majority in the Milli Majlis nominated the candidacy of Mazahir Panov for the post of the chairman of CEC. During voting his candidacy was accepted unanimously. In his remarks, Panahov expressed gratitude for confidence.
The members of CEC also elected Svetlana Gasymova the deputy chairman of the Committee. Under the Code, one of the two secretaries of CEC will represent independent candidates, other - parliamentary minority. Natig Mammadov was elected a secretary from independent candidates.
The secretary representing minority will be elected after holding of the by-elections to the Milli Majlis.
