On 18 January a group of Azerbaijani peacekeepers, who have completed their term of service, returned from Iraq to their motherland. The Azerbaijani Defense Minister informed Trend that Azerbaijani military (94 officers and soldiers) served in the city of Hadit in Iraq for one year.
In general, 150-member Azerbaijani military contingent serve in Iraq. At the beginning of January 2007 some 90 Azerbaijani peacekeepers were sent to Iraq on a rotation basis.
Next week 7 Azerbaijani peacekeepers will return from Kosovo and 6 from Afghanistan after completing their term of service.
