Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / The State Border Service of Azerbaijan reported that 30 people were detained in April while trying to pass the Azerbaijani borders. Nine of the detainees were citizens of Azerbaijan, 7 from Iran, 8 from Georgia, 3 from Turkey, 1 from Nigeria, 1 from Russia, and 1 from Iraq, with 18 detained at border posts, 10 at border check-in desks, 2 at a coastal border near Astara region. Some 8 people attempted to pass the border using forged documents and 2 for using documents not belonging to them.
In April, 74 citizens of Azerbaijan, 5 from Georgia, 4 from Iran, 2 from Russia, and 2 from Turkey were detained due to lack of necessary documents, while 20 citizens from Iran, 9 from Turkey, 6 from Uzbekistan, 5 from India, 2 from Azerbaijan, 2 from Israel, 2 from Germany, 2 from South Korea, 1 from Austria, 1 from Great Britain, 1 from Georgia, 1 from Indonesia, 1 from Jordan, 1 from Malaysia, 1 from Nigeria, 1 from Zambia, 1 from Uruguay, 1 from the SAR, 1 from Pakistan, 1 from Cote d'Ivoire, 1 from Egypt, and 1 from Chile were detained due to lack of visas. Necessary measures were taken against the detainees.
As a result of preventative measures, 57 people were searched and handed over to the law enforcement.
During attempts to cross the border, a total of 1.91 kg of drugs was found. Eighty Azerbaijani citizens were detained for violating coastal laws, with 35,180 m of fishing net, 25,570 fishing instruments, 4 tons of sprat and 100 kg of sturgeon were seized.
Some forged US $400, Iranian 8,700 rials, 10,850 litres of diesel oil, 800 young calves were prevented from being smuggled through the border.
