Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Ramazanova / The reports concerning freedom of speech in Azerbaijan has been delivered by the co-rapporteur, Andrea Herkel and Toni Loid, during the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
The special report on state of freedom of speech in the European Union countries, including Azerbaijan will be discussed during the autumn session of the PACE.
Herkel said that the issue concerning the arrest of the Azerbaijani journalists, Eynulla Fatullayev and Sakit Zahidov was discussed.
Co-Rapporteurs consider that Zahidov needs in the international medical expertise due to bad health. Zahidov was transported to the medical centre of the Penal Service due to heart disease on 21 July.
The second issue discussed during the meeting concerned political prisoners.
The third issue was dedicated to upcoming elections. The representatives of the meeting emphasized necessity in introduction of changes in the Election Code of Azerbaijan.
The next meeting of the Monitoring Committee due to frozen conflicts will be held in Berlin on 5 and 7 November 2007.
