Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / Rovshan Aliyev's assassination was ordered by the leadership of the Azerbaijani Internal Ministry, the detained ex-officer of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Internal Ministry of Azerbaijan, Haji Mammadov, said. Mammadov is accused of numerous murders, kidnapping, illegally possessing arms as well as other heinous crimes.
The Prosecutor of the Central Prosecutor Office, Aliyev was murdered from a gun in front of his own flat. Murder of Aliyev was committed due to his professional activity.
The Court ruled Mammadov's property was to be seized and he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Members of the gang Farhad Mammadbayov (with confiscation of property), Eldar Rahimov (with confiscation of property), Malik Mammadov (with confiscation of property), Huseyin Abdulvahabov (with confiscation of property), Zakir Nasirov (with confiscation of property), Kamil Sadraddinov (with confiscation of property), Musa Dabuyev, Aslanbay Chintamirov, and Yagir Mammadov were sentenced to life imprisonment. The other defendants Nizami Abdullayev (with confiscation of property), Sidak Abdulvahabov, Rovshan Agayev were sentenced to fifteen years, Naila Guliyeva (with confiscation of property) and thirteen years, Adalat Asadullayev and Novruz Nuriyev sentenced to twleve years, Aligulu Guliyev, Nishad Ismayilov sentenced to ten years, Faik Guliyev, Elchin Aliyev (with confiscation of property) and nine years, and Mehman Hasanov, Fariz Gamidov, and Elshan Mirzayev to eight years imprisonment.
Mammadov said the murder of Aliyev did not have connection with his professional activity. "I knew Aliyev very well. I murdered Aliyev to order," Mammadov said.
According to Mammadov, Aliyev's son Rain Aliyev was beaten due to words he said during the investigation. Then I was ordered to murder Rain. Zakir Nasirov made order to kill Rain. I am saying it for the first time," Mammadov added.
"During Aliyev's funeral I said about the order to Aliyev's wife, Irada Aliyeva, and advised her to keep off Rain. Irada approved this during the testimony," Mammadov said.
Adil Ismayilov, Nasirov's attorney, lodged a petition to restore the investigation. The court declined the petition.
Eldar Rahimov, said during the investigation that he was forced to stand against Nasirov, as well as Ramil Usubov, the Internal Minister, and Zahid Dunyamaliyev, the deputy Internal Minister.
Rahimov is charged of connection with a range of murders and abductions.
Mammadov and the other twenty-two members of the gang appealed the court's decision.
