Extradition Measures Launched of Azerbaijani Army Officer from Hungary

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / Azerbaijan launched measures on the extradition of Ramil Safarov, an officer of the Azerbaijani National Army, who is accused of murdering an Armenian officer, Gurgen Makarian, Azay Guliyev who is a member of the Committee on protection of Safarov's rights said to journalists on 22 November.

"Ramil Safarov was arrested in Budapest and may be extradited within the framework of international conventions signed between Azerbaijan and Hungary," Guliyev said.

Safarov, who was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Budapest Court, is kept in an investigation cell.

According to Guliyev, Azerbaijan is negotiating with the Hungarian Government to extradite Safarov. The statement made by the Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian on the impossibility of Safarov's extradition to Azerbaijan is groundless. "Through such a statement Oskanian is making a show in order to receive the approval of the Armenians," Guliyev said.
