Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / If there are Protestants in the Azerbaijani Army, they will not fight with Armenians in case of a war, the principal of the Islamic University Haji Sabir Hasanli said at a conference Press & Religion which took place in the Press Council on 23 November.
According to Hasanli, Protestants consider it unacceptable for them to fight. And therefore, they will not take part in armed struggle against Armenians who are also Christians. Such issues should be immediately taken into consideration in the military system of Azerbaijan, Hasanli said.
There is a problem with Vahhabism in Azerbaijan, but this issue is exaggerated in media. Hundreds of young people are under the pressure of Vahhabism and Protestantism. But as compared to the previous years, now Azerbaijan does not face a religious danger, he said.
"Vahhabism is not a sect, but a political trend. Vahhabism has never been a religious sect and has nothing in common with religion," Hasanli said.
