Golden Globes awards show cancelled

(showbizspy.com ) - The Golden Globes awards show has been cancelled because of the ongoing Hollywood writers' strike, it has been reported.

Organisers have been forced to pull the plug on the TV spectacular on Sunday, according to websites including DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com.

Coverage of one of the biggest showbiz nights in the Hollywood calendar will be replaced by a low-key press conference announcement of the winners, the sites claimed.

DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com reported: "NBC will not be televising the Golden Globes as planned on January 13th.

"Insiders tell me also that the entire event, even if it were held untelevised, will be cancelled.

"And the Hollywood Foreign Press Association instead will merely make an announcement of the winners."

Writers had threatened to picket the black-tie event if it went ahead.

And top A-list stars had vowed to boycott the red carpet in a show of solidarity.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association was still to confirm the TV ceremony is off, but was expected to make an official announcement later in the day.

The latest news on its website said it was "making every effort to work out a solution."
