Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 February / Trend corr A. Salmanov / The trial of those accused of the building collapse, which occurred in Baku last year and resulted in the numerous victims, is still underway.
The architect of the building Eldar Rahimov said that he was not guilty of the incident. "The 16-storey building could not collapse due to the insufficient number of the walls and their overloading," he said. Rahimov informed the Director General Muradov of the defects in the construction. "He said the walls would be repaired later," Rahimov said.
On 28 August 2008 at about 6.00pm, the building which was under construction by the Mutaffakir company collapsed in the Mukhtarov Street. As a result, twenty-five people died and five were injured.
The company's Engineer General- Askar Aliyev, Master Builders -Farhad Hasanov and Gadir Salimov, Mursal Hasanov, Architect -Eldar Rahimov and the head of the housing department at the Baku Administration -Akif Maharramov, were all detained in connection with the incident.
On 19 November, the jailed Director General of Mutafakkir -Ali Muradov died in the hospital of the Penitentiary Service due to the heart failure. After his death, the criminal case against him was closed.
The trial will be continued on 15 February.
