Azerbaijan, Baku, 1 March / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / The Congress of Georgian Azerbaijanis (CGA) will not nominate a candidate for participation in the parliamentary elections, Ali Babayev, CGA co-founder and chairman of Public Association 'Georgia is my motherland', stated to Trend on 1 March.
The parliamentary elections in Georgia will be held in May 2008.
Babayev stated that CGA would not become a political organization. "Azerbaijani NGOs, who are the co-founders of the Congress, try to improve the socio-economic state of Georgian Azerbaijanis, to protect their interest and aid to integrate into the Georgian society," Babayev said.
According to Babayev, CGA may support the candidate independently from his political belonging who will protect interests of Azerbaijanis. "Any NGO interested in settlement of the problems of Azerbaijanis in Georgia may become a member of the Congress.
