Khanlar Hajiyev Re-elected Judge of   European Court on Human Rights

Maharramli/ On 15 April, as a result of the voting during the spring session of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Khanlar Hajiyev was re-elected as the judge of the European Court on Human Rights. A total of 131 people voted for Hajiyev. He will be on this position till 31 October 2013. Other representatives of Azerbaijan - Rovshan Ismayilov and Saadat Yusifova received 14 and 21 votes respectively.

On 14 April, the PACE Bureau held discussions over the Azerbaijani candidates for the position of judge at the European Court on Human Rights. As a result, the Bureau approved of the candidate list submitted by the Azerbaijani Government and decided to discuss the issue at the PACE session.

The Azerbaijani candidates nominated to the European Court on Human Rights were Khanlar Hajiyev, Rovshan Ismayilov and Saadat Yusifova. On 7 March 2008, the PACE Subcommittee on Judge Election held discussions in this connection. The Subcommittee gave positive estimate to the candidates from Azerbaijan.
