UNESCO Allotted AZN 200,000 to Develop Professional Education in   Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 May / corr Trend J.Babayeva / UNESCO supports the development of professional technical education in Azerbaijan and has allocated AZN 200,000 for this purpose, Misir Mardanov, the Azerbaijani Education Minister, informed journalist in Baku on 15 May.

In last year summer, UNSECO, the Azerbaijan Government and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation signed an agreement on plans to realize the project envisaging development of professional education in Azerbaijan.

According to the Minister, the Government of Azerbaijan will allocate AZN 50,000. The Minister said that the UNESCO funds have already been transferred to the Moscow office of the organization.

The Director General of UNESCO, Koichiro Matsuura, said that it is impossible to think UNESCO contributions only in monetary terms. "In addition, UNESCO provides expert assistance for development of professional-technical education in Azerbaijan," the Director General said.

According to the Minister, Azerbaijan suggested the UNESCO to make contribution in several spheres of education as well. "UNESCO may provide assistance to establish pre-school educational institutions of new kind in accreditation of higher educational institutions, licensing activities of the teachers, teaching foreign languages in the educational institutions with the help of contemporary mechanisms," Mardanov said.

In July 2007, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, signed an order approving State Professional-Technical Education Development Program in Azerbaijan for 2007-2012.
