Tough time for Euro touts in Vienna as 300 tickets seized

Some 300 tickets offered illegally on the black market have been confiscated in Vienna since the start of Euro 2008, local authorities said on Wednesday.

The city said that 155 tickets alone were seized from touts ahead of Sunday's quarter-final between Italy and Spain. Touts face a fine of up to 800 euros (1,240 dollars) on top of having the tickets taken away, reported dpa.

"To my knowledge, this is the first time that a large number of tickets has been seized from ticket touts," said UEFA director of communications William Gaillard.

"This is related to how adequate national laws are in this regard. Austria is slightly better protected than (co-host) Switzerland."
