Man Inflicting Injure to Journalist of Azerbaijani Oppositional Newspaper Acknowledged Guilt

Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 July /corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / Sergey Strekalin, who is accused of inflicting injure to Agil Khalil, correspondent of Azerbaijani oppositional Azadlyg newspaper, acknowledged his guilt during the court process on 3 July.

The employee of Azadlyg newspaper, Agil Khalil, was stabbed with knife on 13 March.

Khalil said that two people tracked him, and he connects this attack with other incident with took place with him several days ago in Zeytunlar Bagi Park.

The statement of the Prosecutor General's says that the journalist received injure from untraditional people.

It was noted that the investigation proved that attacking person was Strekalin who Khalil knew formerly and had intimate relation.

Strekalin was accused in compliance with the articles 127.1 (intentionally inflicting damage to health) and 234.1 (illegal acquisition, sale of drugs).

Strekalin said that he met with Khalil in 2005 after personal relations appeared between them.

He said that his relations with Khalil lasted by the end of 2007. However, later cool relations and disputes appeared between them.

Strekalin stated that on 13 March when he unexpectedly met with Khalil, a dispute appeared between them, and as a result, he inflicted injure to the journalist.

Strekalin does not consider himself guilty of illegal acquisition of drugs.

Agil Khalil was brought to process at Nasimi Court of Baku on 1 July forcibly.

On 1 July Nasimi Court made a judgment on obligatory attendance of Khalil at court.
