Criminal Case may be Filed Against Deputy Police Chief in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 31 July/ Trend , corr K. Zarbaliyeva/ A case may be filed against the deputy police chief as a result of the medical examination, the Prosecutor's Office of Ganja said to Trend .

The results of the medical examination is not available yet, therefore, the decision has not been adopted yet to file a case against Sulduz Mammadov, the deputy police chief of Nizami district of Ganja city.

"The results of the medical examination will determine whether to file a case against the deputy police chief," a source in the Prosecutor's Office said.

The resident of Ganja city of Azerbaijan Zakiya Gaziyeva held a press conference and stated that she was subject to torture by Suluz Mammadova, deputy head of the Police Department of Nasimi District of Ganja city and other police officers of the department.

She said that on 20 June she was invited to the investigation as a witness into the criminal case filed into the death of Nadejda Nazarli that took place recently in Ganja.

According to Gaziyeva, Mammadov made her to admit into committing the crime. She said that she was insulted and she was subject to torture by deputy head of the police department which led to miscarriage.

Gaziyeva made an appeal to the law enforcement agencies to investigate the facts of torture and to make the people involved in the torture criminally responsible.

After her appeal, the Prosecutor's Office of Ganja city launched an investigation against Sulduz Mammadov.

Gaziyeva said to Trend that after her meeting with the Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov, he ordered to investigate the incident in a fair way. "A medical examination was carried out in Baku involving the investigator of Ganja city after the order of the Prosecutor General. The examination confirmed that I have received injuries," Gaziyeva said.

She also said that she gave evidence in the Prosecutor's Office of Ganja city.

The Prosecutor's Office of Ganja city also said that earlier a suit was filed against Gaziyeva into the falsification, production and sale of official documents, government awards, stamps, blanks and using false documents. As a result of the charges she had to give a written undertaking not to leave a place.

However, Gaziyeva rejected it. She said that this case had been filed after the press conference that she held.

"After the torture I had to write a statement that I had killed Nadejda Nazarli with an ax and falsified the documents of her house," she said.

On 14 May 2008, 68-year-old resident of Ganja Nadejda Nazarli Dmitriyevna was stabbed to death by an unknown man.

A case has been filed in the Prosecutor's Office of Ganja city into premeditated murder (Article 120.1) of Criminal Code. The causes of the murder and murdered has not been found yet.
