World champions Spain prevailed in overtime 85-75 against a Chinese side which had stunned them with leads as big as 15 points in the Olympic basketball men's competition Tuesday.

Pau Gasol netted 29 points in his side's Group B victory, while China had four players finishing in double digits, including Liu Wei with 19 points, the dpa reported.

The fourth quarter saw the Chinese fade after their earlier efforts, allowing Spain to grab 25 points to 11. Further defeat after that to the USA saw China's quarter-finals hopes fade.

While Angola's Carlos Morais fired in an impressive 24 points, the US team spread their double-digits over four players - Dwayne Wade with 19, Dwight Howard with 14, and Carmelo Anthony and Lebron James who each put up 12.

In a further Group B match, Greece beat Germany 87-64 with Vasileios Spanoulis leading the charge with 23 points. Dirk Nowitzki topped the German team with 13 points and six rebounds.

In Group A, defending Olympic champions Argentina thrashed Australia 85- 68 in the last match of the day, making up for their shock defeat on day one of competition to Lithuania.

Lithuania comfortably beat Iran 99-67, with Linas Kleiza netting 22 points and teammate Sarunas Jasikevicius on 20. Hamed Haddadi was the biggest contributor for Iran with 21 points, nine rebounds and one assist. No other Iranian player scored in the double digits.
